How to Review AAMC PREview Practice Questions

A PREview practice-review framework that helps students learn from missed scenarios, identify rating errors, and improve consistency before test day.

The value of PREview practice questions isn’t how many scenarios you grind through. It’s how well you review them.

A shallow review sounds like: “I got that one wrong.”

A useful review sounds like: “I overrated a fast response because I ignored the communication duty in the scenario.”

See the difference? One is a score. The other is a fix.

How to review a missed AAMC PREview scenario, step by step

Start With the Scenario, Not the Answer

Before you open the explanation, rewrite the scenario in one sentence. Pin down:

Do this and you stop treating the answer choices like isolated moral statements.

Compare Response Strengths

Most PREview options aren’t simply good or bad. A response might fix one part of the problem while quietly breaking another.

So ask why the strongest response wins. Does it protect patient welfare more directly? Does it actually communicate? Does it take accountability? Does it stay inside your role?

That comparison is where the learning happens.

Track the Type of Miss

After every miss, name the reason. For example:

Do this for a while and your pattern shows up fast.

Use Timed Sets Carefully

Timed practice matters, but don’t reach for it too early. Learn the rating scale first. Then use timed sets to check whether your judgment holds up under pressure.

If timing tanks your score, figure out which one it is: are you reading too slowly, or second-guessing because your rating scale isn’t solid yet?

When Tutoring Helps

A PREview tutor earns their keep when you keep missing scenarios and can’t say why. A good one spots the judgment pattern under your misses and hands you a cleaner way to decide.

That’s why Premier PREview Prep pairs high-scoring coaches with a dedicated practice platform. You need both the scenarios and the calibrated review.
